Tissue Bank Visitors from Pakistan

Muhammad Adnan and Muhammad Asif Javed from the Islamabad Medical Complex in Pakistan attended the Donor Tissue Bank of Victoria from February 13 to February 24 2006. While at the DTBV Adnan and Asif received training in tissue banking procedures with an emphasis on skin banking. They are now returning to Pakistan to set up a small tissue bank in the Medical Complex. The Islamabad tissue bank will be supplying both cadaveric allograft skin and cultured autograft skin for transplantation in their Burns Unit.  They are also keen to identify the potential demand for allograft bone in their city, and possibly set up a surgical donor bone bank if their establishment allows.  The new laboratory centre, which will house the tissue bank,  is currently being built, and Adnan and Asif are keen to modify some of the plans to comply with requirements for such a facility. These modifications will be based on what they have seen and learnt whilst at the DTBV.
